- In what order should a child learn the alphabet?
- Not A to Z. Teach high-frequency, easy-to-blend sounds first — s, a, t, p, i, n — so a child can read real words within days. LQuest follows that Science of Reading order inside the games, while these pages stay in A–Z order for easy browsing.
- Should I teach letter names or letter sounds first?
- Sounds first. A child who knows that s says /s/ and a says /a/ can blend 'sat'. Letter names come along naturally once sounds are secure.
- When should a child know all 26 letters?
- Most children recognize all uppercase letters by the end of preschool and all letter sounds by the middle of kindergarten. Ten minutes a day is enough.
